Lisa Olsson - Livingroom Interior

We stopped by our photographer Lisa Olsson in her home in Stockholm to talk about her new mini collection Aligned With The Sea.

"It's like time stops and as if no one else exists when I am in Santa Teresa, I have been there a few times before for surfing and it strikes me every time how harmonious I feel." Lisa Olsson is full of joy when speaking of one of her favourite destinations, Santa Teresa in Costa Rica. The days are spent at sea surfing and the evenings are enjoyed on the beach, watching the sunset together with the numerous stray dogs. One of those evenings, the mini-collection "Aligned With The Sea" was created.

This set of motifs in black and white are photographed analogue and plays with shapes. Here shown together in the home of the photographer, Lisa Olsson, in Stockholm.

How do they differ from each other?

Aligned With The Sea I has more movements, an abstract feel and it leaves more for the viewer to interpret. Aligned With The Sea II has softer shapes, a calmness and it also discloses more of the scenery. I personally think the two motifs are rather different, yet they complement each other in a nice way.

What emotion do you want to portray in these motifs?

I’ve always liked the shape of the human back and been wanting to photograph it in some way. Emotionally I feel that there’s a harmony in these photographs, but also a sense of melancholy. To be swept away by something, or wanting to break free.

How would you decorate with them?

I like to play with different shapes and asymmetry in fashion as well as interior, so I would pair them in different sizes. Let one hang on the wall in a wooden frame and lean the other print against the wall on a bureau, or even on the floor in a black frame and passe-partout. Style with your favorite vase, sculpture and a plant for a personal still life. I often move around our photo art at home to play around with it and change things up.

I’ve always liked the shape of the human back and been wanting to photograph it in some way.
